6. Where can I buy Silver Spoon products?

At the bottom of each product description page is a list of stores stocking that particular product. Click on the one you are trying to buy and this will take you to the retailer's website. As we cannot guarantee availability in all retailers please call your local store to check stock before visiting.

7. How do you make sugar?

Please refer to the British Sugar website for an explanation of how sugar is made by using this link

8. What is the difference between 'beet' and 'cane' sugars?

Silver Spoon use sugar beet primarily grown in East Anglia in the UK. Other sugars are made from cane which is grown in hotter climates. The processing method differs slightly but the resulting sugars are virtually the same.

9. How many sugar beets make a bag of sugar?

Approximately 6 tonnes of sugar beet make up 1 tonne of sugar, that's about 4 - 6 beets in each pack of sugar!

10. Why does sugar not have a best before date?

As solid sugar has a shelf life in excess of 18 months (the true shelf life is actually indefinite when stored under appropriate conditions) and is approved by Food Labeling regulations (1984) to not bear a best before or sell date.

11. What sweeteners do Silver Spoon produce?

Silver Spoon 'Half Spoon'
Half Spoon is made with real sugar and a tiny amount of sweetener. Halve the amount of sugar you would normally use and get all the taste and texture of sugar, but only half the calories.

The FSA recommends you try halving the sugar you use, with Half Spoon you can halve the amount of sugar you use and still get the same sweetness.

Light Granulated Sugar with sweeteners
Light Sugar looks and tastes just like regular sugar, with 33% fewer calories. Put it in your sugar bowl, your family won’t notice the difference.

Silver Spoon Low Calorie Sweetener
Available in tablet and granular form, every spoon of Silver Spoon Low Calorie sweetener has all the taste of sugar with virtually no calories.

12. As a diabetic, which Silver Spoon sweetener is best to use?

Silver Spoon Low Calorie sweetener is wholly made up of artificial sweeteners and is available in granular and tablet format. Given the current recommendations of 30-50g sugar per day (provided this does not replace other nutritious foods and is eaten within meals) then Silver Spoon Low Calorie helps provides all the sweetness without the sugar.

13. What does the 'e' letter mean next to the weight on Silver Spoon products?

This symbol means Statutory Minimum Weight according to Measuring Instructions (EEC Regulations 1975).

14. Why does Silver Spoon Jam Sugar contain glycerol?

Glycerol is a vegetable based product which acts as a binding agent ensuring that the pectin (setting agent) in the Jam Sugar is evenly distributed throughout the pack. This ensures that even if you only use half a kilo, you have the right amount of pectin in the Jam Sugar to ensure a perfect set jam.
