'Tractor' Award Sweetens Sugar for Shoppers
28th Apr 2006
UK shoppers have received fresh reassurance about the quality of their sugar, thanks to the awarding of The Little Red Tractor quality mark to Silver Spoon.
Silver Spoon sugar has been awarded the right to display The Little Red Tractor (LRT) symbol by Assured Food Standards (AFS). The eye-catching logo signifies that the product bearing it has been produced to stringent standards that have been independently inspected. Silver Spoon is the first sugar to be recognised under the LRT scheme.
Speaking about the award, Neil Goodwin Sales and Marketing Director for Silver Spoon comments: “The modern shopper has an unenviable task when choosing what to buy. While there’s always a need for value for money, this is balanced against a desire for quality. Increasingly consumers wish to buy products that have been produced in a safe and environmentally friendly way and also want to support our farmers by buying British.
“We at Silver Spoon are delighted that our commitment to the very best farming practices and high quality production levels has been recognised by AFS”, continues Goodwin. “Shoppers’ will be reassured when they see the distinctive Little Red Tractor symbol appearing on our packs.”
The Little Red Tractor scheme evaluates all aspects of food production: from food hygiene and safety to care of the countryside. It is supported by all the major supermarkets, and can be found on hundreds of different product lines all over Britain.
Silver Spoon has been awarded the right to display the distinctive tractor logo on its 1kg Granulated packs and 1kg Caster sugar packs.
Silver Spoon is available in most major multiples. The Little Red Tractor logo became a prominent feature on its packaging in November 2003.
What The Little Red Tractor Means
Foods carrying The Little Red Tractor logo stamp of approval are produced according to a rigorous set of production standards set out by a scheme called Assured Produce. The standards are policed by independent inspectors.
The standards cover all aspects of the production process from planning what crops to grow, to cultivation, plant health, harvesting, production, storage, and looking after the countryside. Separate guidelines set out best practice for each of the crops grown under the scheme.
